Project Engineer

Job Summary: Project Engineers work with other engineers at Pivot to solve structural problems for our clients. Project Engineers are expected to have obtained a professional engineering license and have the ability to lead small projects or tasks within a large project.

  • Project Management and Communication: Working with other engineers at Pivot and members of a project team to delegate tasks, review work products, meet deadlines, and communicate with clients.

  • Document review: Reviewing and understanding important documents such as drawings, specifications, industry literature, communications, etc. in order to evaluate or understand what might be causing structural distress.

  • Field investigation: Traveling to the structure to observe and assess problems we are hired to resolve. This often includes documentation of the problem, testing (including nondestructive testing) to determine in-place properties, and may include data acquisition, structural monitoring, and other unique applications.

  • Structural analysis: Performing structural analysis to evaluate structural behavior. Includes hand calculations, development and analysis of finite element models and anything in between.

  • Repair design: Developing means to repair existing structures. Includes calculations, specifications, and drawings. During implementation, this may also include responding to RFI’s, reviewing submittals, and other construction administration activities.

  • Technical writing: Developing written reports summarizing complex structural behavior.

  • Professional development: Attending professional conferences, conventions, and technical committee meetings.

Location and Hours: Project Engineers must work in the office full-time for a period of at least 6 months. Following this period, we offer the flexibility of working remotely during typical hours, but Engineers must reside in the Austin, TX area. Engineers will travel to project sites across the country to perform field investigations. This is a full-time position.

Required Qualifications: A graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering or construction materials is required. We are looking for candidates with 3-6 years of experience in the structural engineering industry. Applicants must have a Professional Engineering License in the United States.
