ALI ABU-YOSEF

Ali Abu-Yosef, Ph.D., P.E., S.E.

Ali is a structural engineer focused on saving structures and solving complex problems. He has a penchant for everything corroding and all that is oxidized. From chloride-contaminated parking garages to void-inflected prestressing tendons to microbe-infested bridge piles, Ali's experience includes the examination of the usual and unusual corrosion suspects.

During his tenure at Pivot, he has performed forensic investigations of structural failures, evaluated in-service performance of critical infrastructure, and designed award-winning repairs.

Ali received a B.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Jordan. He later obtained an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin, where he developed a patented low-cost wireless sensor that enables the early detection of corrosion in reinforced concrete structures.

In addition to publishing multiple technical articles and presenting at international conferences, Ali is also an active member in several American Concrete Institute (ACI) and International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) technical committees. In 2022, Ali was recognized as one of ICRI’s 40 Under 40.

When not fighting the good fight to save existing structures, Ali can be found exploring new trails, collecting race bibs, or hunting for the best plate of Tex-Mex.
